  • Does Loving Leos charge for adoptable animals?

    • As of right now, there are no adoption fees. Loving Leos Reptile Rescue is still in its infancy. Should this endeavor grow, small fees may be applied to help compensate for veterinary care, medicine, equipment, travel, supplies, etc.

  • How is Loving Leos funded?

    • Currently, all intakes and their care are paid for out-of-pocket. Crowdfunding campaigns are planned for the future, as well as merchandise sales to help pay for care expenses.

  • How will you ensure that animals are going to a good home?

    • The application process includes a few steps. Interested parties who apply must answer questions and have knowledge of care requirements for the animal they want to adopt.

    • If the applicant is accepted, they must provide proof of an appropriate setup for the animal before I will allow them to take the reptile home. Having an environment already prepared for a new member of your household is important and helps to show an applicant's understanding of the animal's care.

    • I will also provide the option for applicants to meet the animal.

    • Applicants must be willing to accept constructive feedback on their setup. This is strictly for the long-term wellbeing of the animal they want to adopt.

    • Once everything has been approved, applicants must sign a contract with specific terms for the animal's protection.

    • If applicants are denied, I will direct them to resources where they can continue researching proper care for the animals they are interested in. Even if an animal is not adopted out to an interested party, I want them to encourage them to pursue more information to educate themselves on exotic care.

  • Is Loving Leos a nonprofit organization?

    • Loving Leos Reptile Rescue is a one-person operation, but the goal is to expand and raise the funding needed to officially register as a non-profit operation.

  • Can animals be shipped?

    • Currently, all animals will have to be picked up locally, or within a 100 mile distance of Franklin, Kentucky. Many of the intakes have special needs and may become too stressed through shipping.

  • Are the animals available for breeding projects?

    • Absolutely not. Even for animals who are in good health, Loving Leos does not condone breeding for any rescued pet. Many of our animals also have deformities, growth issues, or chronic problems needing long term attention. Genetics are never guaranteed and even where available, genetic background information will never be released.
